Keep your skin hydrated and glowing this winter

Is your skin dehydrated? Fine lines, flaky patches and a dull complexion all part of the problem? Here are 3 easy ways to get your skin glowing and looking its best this winter.

IMG_3707.jpgDrink Water

Drink lots of water. This is literally the best (and most cost effective!) way of keeping your skin plump, happy and hydrated. We should all be aiming to drink around 2 litres a day to function at our best. If the thought of drinking water doesn’t excite you and you’d rather swim the Atlantic, why not try making little changes with big benefits? Swap your morning coffee for a herbal mint tea. Coffee gives you a caffeine kick but it dehydrates your skin. Peppermint tea on the other hand, is caffeine free and still gives you a little refreshing boost. The best bit is that all that lovely minty water is hydrating you from inside out.

Hyaluronic Acid

Use a little Hyaluronic acid after cleansing and before moisturising as part of your AM and PM skincare routine. HA is something that our body produces naturally but less so as we age. It helps to keep our skin soft and supple as well as plump and hydrated. How? It is quite simply really great at retaining our skin’s natural moisture levels. I found Elle’s What is Hyaluronic Acid And How Does It Work? article to be a really interesting and informative read if you want to have a peek too. There are tons of Hyaluronic Acid skincare products out there and they are all very affordable. Say hello to skin that is hydrated from within!

Nourishing Oils

Try using a lovely nourishing natural oil as a moisturiser before bed time. It will leave your skin looking glowy and feeling silky soft when you wake in the morning.

Some of my personal favourites are Squalane, Rosehip and Almond Oil. Massage a few drops into skin after cleansing and your complexion will thank you. Super hydrating and skin defending.

If you’re a little apprehensive about using oils as moisturisers because you worry they will break you out, have a peek at my Three Natural Oils You NEED To Know About blogpost…. hopefully it’ll reassure you!

One extra tip for luck!

For a glowy, radiant and refreshed complexion try making your own yummy yoghurt face mask at home.

You can make this very simply by Mixing a couple of spoons of  skin softening and lactic acid rich yoghurt with some soothing and moisturising honey!

For added Ooomph, try squeezing some fresh lemon into the recipe.  The natural acids from the lemon help to dissolve dead skin cells and brighten dull complexions. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse off with warm water.
